I was honored to support Chef Lee Lucier in his participation at this fundraiser. Carl Ruiz was a hugely impactful member of the chef community as evidenced by the participation in this event. He appeared with many celebrity chefs on Food Network and other shows. I did not know him personally, but the vivid accounts I heard demonstrated his bigger than life personality in a category filled with some pretty big personalities. For clarification “Ruizing” is an adjective that describes reaching a certain mental state akin to, but not at all like “Chilling”. I had the great fortune of meeting some of the most amazing BBQ chefs in the country who all knew and appreciated Carl.
